Karachi Mayor visits different areas of city after rain

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said defective sewerage system, encroachments on drains and absence of storm water drainage were big challenges, for which provincial government should cooperate with us to deal with it.
All concerned staff of KMC with machinery was on roads to drain out rain water whereas chairmen of DMCs also on roads.
Permanent measures were required to solve the problem of accumulation of rain water on main roads and its drainage for which we request the provincial government to include such projects in uplift programs which could ensure swift and proper drainage of all rain water from the main roads. Municipal services staff and sanitary workers were performing drainage of rain water on roads.
Cleaning of drains should be done on permanent basis to avoid any problem during rainy season. The powerful land mafia was very active around precious land near Nehr-e-Khyam. Drainage of rain water would take some time, however municipal bodies were completing this process as soon as possible. He expressed these views while talking to media representatives during his visit to different locations in the city after rain.
Mayor Karachi went on a detailed visit of the city after start of rain on Friday to review and check the drainage of rain water. He was accompanied by the DMCs East Chairaman Moeed Anwer, DMC Korangi Chairman Nayyar Raza, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Director General Technical Services Shahab Anwer and other officers.
During his visit the Mayor Karachi went to Tariq Road, Natha Khan Airport, Malir, NIPA Roundabout, University Road, Nehr-e-Khyam Clifton and other areas.
He said this rain was unusual. Nehr-e-Khyam cleaning was being done. City wardens were controlling traffic on various places in the city in the absence of traffic police. He also said to DIG Traffic to ensure presence of traffic police on roads during rains.
Mayor Karachi said the city present pathetic condition due to no work since last eight years to correct the situation. It was necessary that different land controlling organizations should come on one page and work under the central control of the KMC. We all should now work for this city and for its citizens.
