KARACHI: Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage Ms Marriyum Aurangzeb and Advisor to the Prime Minister Mussadiq Malik Sunday called on Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair here at the Governor House.

They discussed matters of public importance, including freedom of expression, projection of government sponsored schemes for public welfare and role of media in the country's economic growth. They also discussed the prevalent situation in the country with regard to "Right to information".

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Zubair said neither the contribution made by the media in restoration of peace in the country be ignored, nor its role in highlighting social malice enabling the authorities to take action in a more focused manner, according to a Governor House press release.

He said with the restoration of peace, investment, industry, business, social, cultural and other positive activities had been continuously increasing in the province. Karachi had again become a city of lights, he added.

The governor said many development projects in collaboration with the federal government were underway in the province, which were raising the life standard of people.

The federal government funded schemes worth Rs.7.5 billion were in varied phases of completion in Karachi only. The completion of Lyari Expressway would help control huge traffic flow in the mega city. Similarly, Greenline project would provide modern, cheap and comfortable traveling facility to the public.

The minister of state on the occasion said the fruits of democracy were fast reaching people in the form of extensive development works that had either been completed or were near completion across the country.

She said the current government, which had assumed power in a grave situation in 2013, had largely been able to establish peace in a short span of time.

A stable economy and self-sufficiency in terms of energy were the achievements the people could be proud of in 2018, she added.

She reiterated that the development work registered across Sindh was in accordance to the vision of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's federal government as it gave top priority to public welfare.

"We believe in serving people without any discrimination," said the minister.
