Supreme Court (SC) has given on Saturday the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police three days time to arrest former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar, who has been involved in the ‘extrajudicial murder’ of Naqeebullah Mehsud.

When the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar inquired about Anwar’s whereabouts from the IG, he was informed that Anwar has not been located by the officials. According to local media reports, the CJP has asked about the travel details of Anwar, after the IG expressed his concern that Anwar might have fled the country in order to avoid investigation.

The IG has been given the three days time period in which he has the freedom to proceed with the investigation without any pressure.

A three-member bench, headed by CJ comprising Justice Gulzar and Justice Faisal Arab conducted the hearing.

Rao Anwar’s tenure saw 745 encounters in Malir district: inquiry report

The SC had summoned Anwar to court after his attempt to flee the country earlier this week but was stopped by Federal Investigation Agency. Since then Anwar has gone into hiding.

The former SSP is wanted in the 'extra judicial murder' of 27-year-old Naqeebullah, a native of Waziristan. He was killed, along with three other suspected terrorists, on January 13 in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family has claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
