Published January 22, 2018 Updated January 22, 2018 02:23pm

ISLAMABAD: The Senate's Special Committee on Monday was told that the draft bill regarding reforms in the structure and functioning of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) had been pending with the authority concerned for approval.

An FPSC representative told the committee, which met with Senator Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah in the chair, that they had recently written a letter to the Prime Minister Office regarding the bill.

The committee chairman expressed concern over delay and directed the FPSC to pursue the matter and write another letter for early approval of the draft.

The meeting was attended by senators Mohsin Khan Leghari, Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Taj Haider and Nauman Wazir Khattak, and representatives from the Establishment Division, FPSC and Higher Education Commission.

Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak observed that the FPSC's structure and system of working needed overhauling.

The FPSC officials gave a detailed briefing to the committee about the Commission's methodology and procedure for holding different competitive examinations and curriculum for different groups.

Senator Leghari said a mandatory aptitude test of candidates qualifying in the FPFC's competition examinations must be held before allocation of service groups.

Senator Nauman Wazir asked the high-ups of FPSC to improve the performance of its all wings.

The committee will meet again Tuesday to finalize its recommendations regarding restructuring of FPSC.
