US President Donald Trump has been in controversy ever since he got elected as next US President in November 2016. Different celebrities and people around the world have been bashing him for his controversial past. Hollywood much-decorated actress Meryl Streep too took a dig at Trump at an award function which made him furious.
During the recently held Golden Globe Awards 2017, Meryl Streep gave a rousing speech where she attacked Donald Trump for insulting a disabled journalist without even naming him.
"It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can't get it out of my head, because it wasn't in a movie," Streep said. "It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when it's modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose".
Reacting on this, Trump spoke with The New York Times early Monday morning, before viewing Streep's speech, and told the paper, he was not surprised that he had come under attack from 'liberal movie people'.
After viewing her much-praised speech at Golden Globe, Trump took to Twitter to slam the actress. He posted, "Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never mocked a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him groveling when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!".
Not to forget, in 2015, when asked if there were any actresses that he is particularly fond of, Trump name-checked the Oscar-winner. Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others, Trump told The Hollywood Reporters Janice Min, before adding, Meryl Streep is excellent; shes a fine person, too.
