The Elections Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced that the polling for 50 Senate seats would be held on March 06. Secretary Election Commission, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said the elections were being held to fill up the 50 Senate seats, which would fall vacant on March 11 after completion of Senators' first three-year term as a result of drawing of lots held on January 02, 2006 in the Parliament House.
According to the schedule the election in all the four provinces, the federal capital and FATA would take place simultaneously while Returning Officers (RO) and Polling Officers (PO) have already been notified.
The election commission would receive nomination papers by the intending candidates on February 11 to 13 and the offices of the ROs would remain open on Sunday falling on February 12 while the scrutiny of the papers would be held on 14.
Appeals could be filed against the rejection of nominations with the Secretary or Members Election Commission (EC) till February 16 during office timing. The fate of the appeals would be decided by the EC by February 18-20.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 21 while the list of the contesting candidates would be published on February 22. The polling would be held on March 06 between 09.00 and 16.00 hours at the buildings of the provincial assemblies for the members of provincial assembles while the members from FATA and federal capital would cast their votes in the Parliament House Building.
