Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) has demanded the slots of senior vice-president and secretary-general in the 'united' PML and cautioned to part ways if its demand was not met.
Sources in PML (F) told Business Recorder here on Saturday that it would oppose these two slots also going to Punjab province.
Pir Pagara has already expressed concern over the naming of Shujaat Hussain as PML president and Salim Saifullah Khan as Secretary General, these sources said.
The PML (F) chief, sources said, was still demanding that after shedding his military outfit, President Pervez Musharraf or Prime Pagara Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali should take over as party head.
"Pir Pagara is against monopoly of any particular province in the affairs of the 'unified' League and has, therefore, demanded the slots of SVP and secretary general," they said.
In the ruling coalition, after PPPP-Patriot, and MQM, PML (F) is the third biggest partner of the ruling 'PML (Q)', but has been so far denied representation in the Federal Cabinet and in the unified League, sources quoted Pir Pagara as saying.
"Now the only hurdle in the way of five PML factions' 'unification' is distribution of slots, which has been a source of concern for the President and Prime Minister," sources added.
Sources said that PML (F) had agreed on unification and not on merger of all the League factions, which could be possible only after all the factions are given due representation in the new set-up, instead of letting PML being run by a specific group.
PML (F) has 13 MPAs in Sindh Assembly, five in the National Assembly and a senator.
