imageKARACHI: After the cult following of Anurag Kashyap’s uber-violent thrillers Gangs of Wasseypur I and II, there has been much speculation the mad genius director behind hits Dev D and Bombay Talkies may return for a part III. Though there have been no confirmed reports as yet, the online world is abuzz with rumors the story is not yet ‘complete.’

Gangs of Wasseypur and its sequel were massively successful at painting a picture of the mob-esque life in the state of Jharkhand, popularly known as the ‘Coal Capital of India.’ The story revolves around a conflict between a Qureshi gangster, Sultan and Pathan Shahid Khan, who rival each other for control. The storyline of its sequel progresses much faster as the new generation of gangsters confront each other with more force and sheer brutality. The films’ star Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Reema Sen alongside others, and were both critical successes.

The films paid particular attention to the socio-political dynamic in the coal and scrape trade mafia of Wasseypur and Kashyap gained a massive following since the films’ release.

Whether or not fans can expect a closing chapter to the highly popular franchise is yet to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – with Anurag Kashyap behind them they will always have a cult following!
