ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf Monday said that some politicians were trying to vitiate the political environment by mud-slinging against the President of Pakistan,who was symbol of the federation.
Addressing a press conference here at PPP Media Centre here senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader, Raja Pervez Ashraf warned against pushing the country's politics back into 1990s era.
He said that a conspiracy was being hatched to delay the elections in the country and those trying to provoke the PPP workers were also part of the conspiracy.
"Showing disrespect for the President was like bringing the country,constitution,parliament",Pervez Ashraf said adding that political parties should count their own achievements during their five year rule,rather than accusing anyone else.
The former PPP prime minister said that the PPP worker shad the right to respond to the accusations from a former chief minister of a province in the same coin.
Raja Pervez Ashraf claimed that the PPP has never been given level playing field in the elections since 1988 and these elections were no exception. Citing the example of former Water and Power Minister Liaquat Jatoi,he said that if his nomination papers can be accepted despite his implication in Rental Power case,why his papers were rejected.
He also quoted the examples of PPP leaders Rana Farooq Saeed and Murtaza Satti in this connection whose nomination papers have been rejected though they are not convicted in any case.
"Article 63 of the Constitution is very clear as it says that no one can be disqualified before conviction",he said.
"In Rental Power case, the names of the accused have not been mentioned but my nomination papers were rejected and in Asghar Khan case also known as IJI case the court has given the names of the beneficiaries but their papers were accepted",he said.
"The PPP candidates have been targeted and thier nomination papers were rejected while the PPP opponents were released from jails to contest elections against the PPP", claimed Raja Pervez Ashraf.
Referring about the provision of security to former prime ministers and chief ministers he said it was strange that the caretaker chief minister of a province had 400 security personnel and his predecessor had 700 security men.He said that about his security,some authorizes were concerned and want to slash his security even more and reduce it to single digit figure.
Replying to a question,Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the masses were the best judge and let them accept or reject the candidates on May 11.
To a question, Raja Pervez Ashraf said despite hindrances and threats that the PPP leadership was satisfied with its ongoing election campaign.
