Pakistan Day celebrated in Kabul

pak-afghan-flag-400KABUL: Pakistan Day was celebrated at Pakistan Embassy, here on Saturday with zeal and fervor to commemorate the passage of Lahore Resolution which paved the way for the creation of an independent homeland for the Muslims of the South Asian sub- continent.

The Pakistan Day ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the national anthem and hoisting of Pakistan flag by Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq.

Hundreds of the Pakistani community members, including senior executives, businessmen, educationists, doctors and other professionals attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq in his address highlighted the historical significance of Pakistan's resolution of 23rd March, 1940 which resulted in the emancipation of the Muslims of South Asia from the British colonial rule.

He said, "We need to follow the guiding principles of the Father of Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah i.e. Unity, Faith and Discipline."

Ambassador Sadiq also underscored the importance of Pak-Afghan ties and underlined the need for closer cooperation in the areas of trade, economy, culture and education for mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries.

He said Pakistan had tremendously contributed to the social and economic development of Afghanistan.

The Ambassador highlighted the projects built with Pakistan's bilateral assistance in the education and health sectors in Afghanistan particularly the construction of Allama Iqbal Arts Faculty in University of Kabul, Liaqat Ali Khan Engineering University in Bulkh, Jinnah Hospital in Kabul, Nishtar Kidney Center in Jalalabad, Jalalabad-Torkham Road and the provision of three thousand scholarships for the Afghan students.

He said Pakistan and Afghanistan were facing the challenges of terrorism and its elimination required enhanced and closer cooperation of the both sides.

Ambassador Sadiq urged the Pakistani community and Embassy officials to work with renewed commitment and dedication to serve their homeland.
