KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan on Sunday assured that the Government will extend all possible support and cooperation in execution of the welfare projects and schemes of journalists; especially their residence and health-cover schemes.The Governor was talking to President Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ-Burna) G.M. Jamali who called on him here at the Governor House, said an official statement.
G.M. Jamali briefed the Governor about the Endowment Fund set up for journalists' welfare and Journalists' residence project at Korangi Road adjacent to Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The Governor directed the concerned authorities to provide all required facilitation and support in timely completion of the journalists' residential project.
He ordered that all infrastructure including water supply and sewerage system, electricity and gas supply, roads and streets be constructed and other associated development work be completed before completion of the residential project.
He assured that he would contribute from his Special Development Fund for completion of the above project/ schemes, if it is required.
The Governor said that he had always given priority to the welfare of journalists irrespective of their organisational status.
He praised the KUJ for initiating such welfare projects for the journalistic community and hoped that it would continue its welfare services without any discrimination.
He also urged that KUJ should play a more effective role for skill development among journalists.
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan said journalists community is the fourth pillar of the estate and it could be further strengthened through coordinated efforts.
