ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the United Nations and the international community to ensure right to self-determination for masses in occupied Kashmir.
The resolution was moved to the House by JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the end of farewell speech in National Assembly as the House demanded an end to atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and give them their internationally recognized right to decide their future.
"This House demands that India should stop brutal actions against Kashmiries and atrocities inflicted on innocent people who were protesting the execution of Kashmiri leader Afzal Guru," said the resolution read by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
In this resolution, the National Assembly House demanded that body of Afzal Guru be handed over to his family members for proper burial as the House also called upon the Indian government to lift curfew from occupied Kashmir, repeal black laws imposed on Kashmiri people, ensure freedom of media and allow free exercising of the religious practices as enshrined in UN resolutions and charters.
The House resolved that Pakistan will continue supporting political, moral and diplomatic support of the peaceful, just and inalienable right of Kashmiris to self-determination and their struggle waged within the ambit of the UN Charter and according to UNSC resolutions on Kashmir.
The resolution emphasized that Kashmir issue was not an internal affair of India and international community and UNSC should not keep oblivious to this issue and play their effective role in resolution of this issue in the light of UN resolutions.
