supreme-court-of-pakistan3ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday was informed that there was a need to take up the issue of bringing Tauqeer Sadiq back from the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan at government level.

The three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja resumed hearing of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) implementation case.

Director General Middle East Nasrullah appeared before the court and presented a report regarding the efforts made for bringing ex-OGRA chief Tauqeer Sadiq back to the country, who was under arrest in the UAE.

He informed the court that there had been considerable improvement in the case during the last last one day. However, he added that there was a need to take up the matter at government level.

Justice Jawwad remarked that the court would not take the matter liniently as Tauqeer Sadiq was involved in the embezzlement of billion of rupees. The court would not sit at rest till the logical conclusion.

Investigation Officer National Accountability Bureau Waqas apprised the court that Saleem Shehzad Bhatti, the main character in the scam, was set free before he took charge as the IO of case.

He further stated that an application was also submitted to the Director General NAB for providing security to six witnesses of the case, however, no action had been taken in that regard so far.

Justice Jawwad said that strict action would be taken against those, who were giving shelter to Tauqeer Sadiq.

The court also directed the DG NAB and the six witnesses to appear before the court on next date of hearing and adjourned the case till March 25.
