KARACHI: Pending posting of Accounts Officers in all five districts of Karachi, consequent to revival of SGLO 1979, has delayed payment of salaries to the KMC workers, said Syed Zulfiqar Shah, Central President of Karachi Municipal Corporation's Workers Association (CBA) on Monday.
He said there was also an urgency for appointment of Municipal Commissioners in districts West, Central and Malir in the metropolis so as to streamline the districts' administrative affairs.
He said despite revival of the ordinance some 15 days ago the slots of accounts officers, superintendent engineers, health officers and parks officers remain vacant in all the five districts causing serious inconvenience to the general public as well as KMC workers.
Syed Zulfiqar Shah said delay in appointments and handing over of relevant authorities to officials who would assume responsibilities under the new arrangement has particularly affected the junior cadre of KMC employees (former town employees).
He said since the confusion regarding the local government system has persisted for quite some time, the grade 12 to grade 19 employees of Saddar town could not get their pay for past three months.
"This is besides the fact that KMC employees in general are yet to receive their salary for February 2013," he said.
