Rain damages wheat, vegetable crops in Sialkot

Due to current rainfall, hailstorm and wind wheat and other Rabi crops spreading on a vast area have been badly affected in Sialkot district. Sources in Agriculture Department told Business Recorder on Sunday that according to a survey, standing wheat and vegetable crops spreading over 5 lakh acres have been affected in Sialkot, Pasrur, Daska and Sambrial tehsils of the district.

According to sources, wheat was sown over 5.10 lakh acres out of which 2.28 lakh acres of wheat crop had been badly affected in four tehsils of the district.

Similarly, sunflower, gram, lentil, tomato and vegetables crops cultivated over 2.81 lakh had also been affected badly due to current rainfall in the district. The timely wheat harvesting was suffered due to rain and it affected the per acre yield of wheat crop 25 to 28 percent in the district, the sources added.
