Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is facing serious challenges including terrorism and the country can be rid of all problems through collective efforts and wisdom. He said that elimination of terrorism and extremism is vital for the progress and prosperity of the country and the entire nation has united against terrorism. The Chief Minister said that Pak Army is fighting bravely against enemies of the country, peace and humanity. He said that armed forces of the country are achieving remarkable successes in war against terrorism. He said that education is of great importance for eliminating terrorism. He expressed these views while addressing convocation of Fazaia College of Education for Women, here on Wednesday. He further said that the trends of extremism can be eliminated from the society through promotion of education. Shahbaz Sharif said that a large portion of our population comprises women. He said that the role of women is of paramount importance for the promotion of tolerance, patience and brotherhood in the society. He said that Fazaia College of Education for Women is playing an important role for equipping the daughters of the nation with education. The Chief Minister also announced to give laptops to position holder students and modern multi-media computer lab for the college. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tariq Rafiq Butt, Vice Chancellor Air University Faiza Mir, President Pakistan Air Force Women Association Begum Shehla Tahir Butt, officers of Air Force, Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Information and a large number of female students were present on the occasion. Principal, Fazaia College of Education for Women Naz Gul Syed presented the address of welcome. Shahbaz Sharif said that it is an honour for him to participate in this magnificent function. Congratulating the degree holder female students, the Chief Minister said that this is due to the hard work and prayers of their parents, upon which, parents and their teachers deserve appreciation. He said that the efforts of Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafiq Butt for the development of the college are commendable due to which the college has become the best educational institution. The Chief Minister said that more than half population of the country comprises women and the development goals cannot be achieved without bringing them into national mainstream. Shahbaz Sharif said that terrorism has caused an irreparable loss to national economy and shaken the foundations of the country. He said that more than 50 thousand Pakistanis have sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism which included officers and officials of Pak Army, police, security agencies and citizens. He said that political and military leadership has decided to start a vigorous war against the terrorists. He said that Zarb-e-Azb operation against terrorists is yielding positive results. The Chief Minister said that Pakistan cannot march forward without eliminating terrorism. He said that the menace of terrorism will be coped with through collective efforts and the country will be made a haven of peace by eliminating terrorism. He said that promotion of education is essential for eliminating terrorism, extremism and sectarianism from the country. He said that every Pakistani is grieved over Peshawar tragedy. He said that the incident of barbarism committed against innocent children in Peshawar school can never be forgotten. Shahbaz Sharif said that December 16, 2014 is a black day in the history of the country. He said that the goal of development and prosperity cannot be achieved without defeating the menace of terrorism and extremism. The Chief Minister said that in view of the importance of education, Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the promotion of education throughout the province and huge resources are being spent on education. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), educational programmes of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) and Danish School System are playing an important role in the promotion of education. He said that scholarships are being given to more than 60 thousand talented male and female students of deserving families through an educational fund of 12 billion rupees. Shahbaz Sharif said that not only talented male and female students of Punjab but of Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, FATA, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have also been included in this programme as Pakistan is constituted with all these units. He said that the talented male and female students are getting education in prestigious educational institutions like LUMS, Grammar and medical colleges through PEEF.
