THE RUPEE: dollar marginally up

KARACHI (July 29, 2010): Falling trend was seen on the local currency market on Wednesday as the rupee showed marginal decline versus dollar and euro, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee shed four paisa against dollar for buying at 85.59 and it fell by three paisa for selling at 85.63, they said. Some currency experts said that rupee may decline slightly as a result of strong demand by the importers to meet the payments.

RBS acquisition: SBP grants NOC to Faysal Bank
KARACHI (July 29, 2010): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday granted No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Faysal Bank Limited for the purchase of Royal Bank of Scotland Pakistan operation. Faysal Bank Limited (FABL) has already entered into an agreement to acquire 99.37 percent interest in the Pakistan franchise of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS Pakistan) for a cash consideration of EUR 41 million (equivalent to Rs 4.298 billion @ Rs 2.52 per share).



HBL profit after tax increases to Rs 7.865 billion
KARACHI (July 29, 2010): The profit after tax (consolidated) of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has increased to Rs 7.865 billion in the half year period ended June 30, 2010, as compared to Rs 6.099 billion earned in the corresponding period in 2009. The board of directors of the bank in its meeting held on Wednesday declared the bank's earning per share at Rs 7.77 in the period under review against Rs 6.16 in the same period last year.



HSBC receives Euromoney Awards
