Government withdraws freight subsidy on cement
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI (December 23 2006): Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives has withdrawn the freight subsidy of Rs 60 per 50kg bag on imported cement from all countries with immediate effect, a SBP circular said on Friday.

The government had allowed this freight subsidy on May 9, 2005 from all countries, to ease price increase in the cement sector.

Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiative vide a notification (No 2(1)/2003-P&I_II dated 20th December, 2006) has withdrawn the freight subsidy of Rs 60/per 50kg bag on imported cement with immediate effect as per decision of the ECC of the Cabinet in case No ECC-19512/2006 dated 6.12.2006. However, this facility will remain applicable on the LCs already opened.
