Activity at Karachi and Qasim ports
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI (January 26 2010): The Karachi Port handled 179,424 tonnes of cargo including 118,626 tonnes of import 60,798 tonnes of export cargo and 5,544 loaded and empty containers during last 48 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 118,626 tonnes comprised of 77,128 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,137 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,033 tonnes of canola; 9,599 tonnes of coal; 1,240 tonnes of MAP; 3,189 tonnes of oil cake meals and 19,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 60,798 tonnes comprised of 47,418 tonnes of containerised cargo; 768 tonnes of bulk cargo; 10,012 tonnes of cement and 2,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. Fifteen ships namely Kota Handal, Tan Binh 36, Saeed, MSC Roberta, Sea Lark, TS Malaysia, Carmencita, Lucky Arrow, Seaways Valour, Uni Promote, OOCL Charleston, Orient-II, Vinashin Beach, APL Sharjah and Kota Layar sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Twelve vessels viz APL Sharjah, Uni Promote, Seaways Valour, Kota Layar, Thomas Mann, Dorian, Bunga Raya Tiga, Salsabilah, New Legand Sun, Rising OM, Quetta and Bow Cedar are currently at the berths. Five ships namely Thomas Mann, Rising OM, Bow Cedar, Tom Ship-2 and APL Brisbane expected to sail on Monday, while four vessels viz Bunga Raya Tiga, Al-Ihsaa, OEL Trust and Quetta are expected to sail on Tuesday.

Four vessels viz Al-Ihsaa, Sima Sahba, OEL Trust and Rose-II due to arrive on Monday, while four ships namely YM Satum, Samin-1, Queen Arrow and Iron Butterfly are due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
The Port Qasim handled 16,517 tonnes of cargo includes 13,054 tonnes of import 3,463 tonnes of export cargo and 487 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) during last 24 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 13,054 tonnes includes 7,549 tonnes of palm oil and 5,505 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 3,463 tonnes includes 2,023 tonnes of rice and 1,440 tonnes of containerised cargo. Three ships namely MT Chemstar King, CV Santa Catalina and CV Al-Ihsaa sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while another vessel MT Chem Star Moon is expected to sail on Monday.

Five vessels viz CV Al-Ihsaa, MV Zenobia, MV Oriental Bridge, MT Chem Star Moon and MT Beaufort Sea are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours. A total number of three ships namely Maersk Virginia, Precedence and Alexi-III carrying containers, palm oil and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage.

Three vessels viz Maersk Virginia, Precedence and Alexi-III scheduled to load/offload containers, palm oil and cement are expected to take berths at Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Monday. Three ships namely MT Fair Spirit, MT Al-Salam-II and MV Wales-II due to arrive on Monday, while another container vessel viz Nedlloyed Asia is due to arrive on Tuesday. Five container vessels viz ACX Pearl, Nedlloyed Europa, Ville d Orion, Dubai Express and CSAC Jura are also due to arrive.
