Activity at Karachi and Qasim ports
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI (January 22 2010): The Karachi Port handled 128,932 tonnes of liquid import cargo including 86,798 tonnes of import 42,134 tonnes of export cargo and 5,176 loaded and empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 86,798 tonnes comprised of 35,145 tonnes of containerised cargo; 367 tonnes of bulk cargo; 7,186 tonnes of canola; 21,100 tonnes of coal; and 23,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 42,134 tonnes comprised of 26,034 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,552 tonnes of bulk cargo; 9,879 tonnes of cement and 4,669 tonnes of rice. Six ships namely MT Swat, Olympia, Sima Sahba, Atrium, Bunga Raya Lima and BBC Ohio sailed out to sea during the reported period. Six vessels viz Bunga Raya Lima, MT Johar, Hyundai Duke, Queen Arrow-II, Thuringia Express and Carmencita are currently at the berths.

Three ships namely Praia, Queen Arrow-II and Ocean Island expected to sail on Thursday, while three vessels viz Hyundai Duke, Thuringia Express and MT Johar are expected to sail on Friday. Three vessels viz Michalis K, Vinh Thuan and Sea Lark due to arrive on Thursday, while nine ships namely Rising OM, Kota Hapas, MSC Rouerta, OOCL Charleston, APL Sharjah, TS Malaysia, Lucky Arrow, Song Shan and Tom Ship-2 are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
The Port Qasim handled 57,625 tonnes of cargo includes 43,347 tonnes of import 14,278 tonnes of export cargo and 1,981 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) during last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 43,347 tonnes includes 20,115 tonnes of diesel oil; 7,000 tonnes of palm oil; 887 tonnes of coal and 15,345 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 14,278 tonnes includes 2,121 tonnes of rice; 661 tonnes of cement and 11,496 tonnes of containerised cargo. Two ships: Bulk cargo carrier MV Mara and container ship ACX Salvia sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while three more vessels: Container ship CMA CGM Onyx, oil tanker Al-Soor-II and edible oil vessel Royal Emerald are expected to sail on Thursday.

Eight vessels viz CV ACX Salvia, CV CMA CGM Onyx, MV Zenobia, MV Oriental Bridge, MV Leopard-B, MT Al-Soor-II, MT Royal Emerald and MT ST Kitts are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, cement, diesel oil, palm oil and LPG respectively during last 24 hours. A total number of three ships namely Lahore Express, Angelia and Chemstar King carrying containers, cement and chemicals respectively are currently at the outer anchorage.

Three vessels viz Lahore Express, Hanjin Los Angels and Chemstar King carrying containers and chemicals are expected to take berths at Container Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday. Container ship namely CV HS Beethven due to arrive on Thursday, while three more container vessels viz Maersk Novazzano, MSC Namibia and Santa Catalina are due to arrive on Friday.
