'$800 million payment dispute with Etisalat to be resolved in March'
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): Minister for Privatisation Waqar Ahmed Khan on Monday said that the dispute of payment of $800 million between Etisalat and the government of Pakistan would be resolved in March. The Minister stated this at a press conference here. He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved next month and $800 million would be released to Pakistan soon.



PTCL's anti-worker policies: Senate body expresses reservations
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology (IT) has expressed its reservation over the strategy of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Limited (PTCL) converting regular employees' jobs into contract. The committee also asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to improve its standard of service.



Poor quality of service: PTA issues show cause notice to PTCL
LAHORE (February 09, 2010): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued Show Cause Notice to initiate proceedings against M/s PTCL on showing poor quality of service, based on the results of the joint Quality of Service (QoS) Survey conducted recently by the PTA. The PTA has given 30 days time to PTCL to submit the reply. Based on the outcome PTA, under the Telecom Act, reserves the right to proceed legally.



Warid not selling its stakes
KARACHI (February 07, 2010): Recently there have been misplaced news items in certain sections of the press that Warid Telecom Pakistan may be up for sale because of the shrinking interest of the sponsors relating to the market conditions in Pakistan. Warid telecom Pakistan categorically and unequivocally denies such reports and impressions.



Cellphones: CCP unearths cartelisation by telecom service providers
ISLAMABAD (February 06, 2010): The Competition Commission of Pakistan has unearthed a unique international case of alleged cartelisation by telecommunication service providers of cellphones, entering into an agreement to revise selling price of SIMs along with missed calls charges, violating Competition Ordinance. The scam has been unearthed on a tip off of an informer under the informer reward scheme.



Listening movies: Mobilink launches new service
LAHORE (February 06, 2010): Mobilink Pakistan has launched a new and innovative service allowing users to listen to select movies on their cell phones. Jazz Audio Cinema, launched under the umbrella of Mobilink Jazz, Pakistan's favourite prepaid cellular brand, is the first of its kind allowing users to enjoy the original dialogues and songs of popular blockbusters on the go.



ZTE builds first successful EVDO Rev-B Network for PTCL
ISLAMABAD (February 05, 2010): ZTE Corporation announced successful completion of EVDO Rev-B Network in country for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), an Etisalat company) which is the biggest CDMA operator in the country. In continuation to evolution from existing technology EVDO Rev-A to EVDO Rev-B, the tests revealed a download speed of 9.3Mbps and upload speed of 5.4Mbps.



Over 97.5 million people using mobile phones: PTA
ISLAMABAD (February 05, 2010): Cellular phone industry has registered a phenomenal growth from 2000 to 2009, as at present there are 97,579,940 mobile phone users against 306,493 in 2000, according to PTA data. The cellular phone industry has blossomed over the years and the government was collecting billions of rupees in the shape of different taxes imposed on the usage of cell phones.



Easyload Millionaire Prize Scheme 3: Telenor gives prizes worth Rs 12 million to retail partners
ISLAMABAD (February 05, 2010): Telenor Pakistan, under its 'Easyload Millionaire Prize Scheme 3', gave away prizes worth Rs 12 million to retail partners from different regions of Pakistan. Retail partners who exceeded their sales for May 2009 in the month of July by 5 percent were eligible to enter the lucky draw. A 10 percent increase allowed them a double entry in the draw.



Atif becomes Warid's official Brand Ambassador
LAHORE (February 04, 2010): Warid Telecom (Pvt) Ltd Pakistan's most reliable and third largest telecom operator has announced Atif Aslam as their official brand ambassador. Signing ceremony took place at Warid head office here.
