2011 Events in Pakistan

Another year full of big events in Pakistan and the world has come to an end. During 2011, many big events like uprisings, natural disasters, deaths of big personalities and many more were witnessed.

Pakistan also saw many big events in 2011. Some where good, some where bad. Some of these events became a headline in whole world. So Following is the list of Important events that taken place in Pakistan 2011.

January

* 3 - The government enters into urgent talks with opposition parties after the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) resigns from the coalition, depriving it of its majority.

* 4 - Salmaan Taseer, the governor of Punjab, is shot by one of his bodyguards Malik Mumtaz Qadri near his home. Taseer dies of his wounds soon afterwards. Qadri turns himself in and claims he killed the governor due to his opposition to the blasphemy law in Pakistan.

10 - Death of Naseerullah Babar, 82, soldier and politician, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (1976–1977) and Interior Minister (1993–1996).

* 13 - A reporter of Geo News, Wali Khan Babar is shot by unknown political gunmen in Karachi as target killing once again gripped the city.

* 19 - Massive earthquake of magnitude Mw 7.2 hits southwestern parts of the country including Karachi, with tremours jolting as far as New Delhi and Dubai.

* 22 - Aslam Khokhar, 91, cricketer dies.

* 23 - Colonel Imam, who was kidnapped along with former ISI official Khalid Khawaja, British journalist Asad Qureshi and his driver in the tribal belt on March 26 last year, died due to a heart attack in the custody of his captors. (body found on this date)

* 24 - Another earthquake of magnitude Mw 6.3 jolts the upper parts of the country including Islamabad.

* 25 - At least thirteen people killed, 70 others injured in a suicide bomb explosion in a mourning procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) near its concluding point at Kerbala Gamay Shah at Bhat Gate in Lahore.

* 25 - A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorbike into a police van at Malir 15 area of Karachi, killing at least three people while 5 people were injured.

* 27 - A US diplomat, Raymond Davis, kills two men on a motorbike in Lahore allegedly in self defence while a companion of the diplomat, who is also an American citizen, crushed to death a bike rider in a hit-and-run incident, following the shooting.

March

* 30 - Pakistan plays Cricket World Cup semi-final with India.

* 30 - Famous Comedian Liaquat Soldier dies.

April

* 17 - Pakistan loses bid to hold ICC World Cup 2011

* 22 - Legendary TV artiste Moin Akhtar passes away due to heart attack

May

* 2 - Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden killed by US special forces in the city of Abbottabad.

* 24 - Death of President Asif Ali Zardari's father Hakim Ali Zardari died at the age of 81 years.He was admitted in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences HOSPITAL Islamabad in private ward where His death took place.

June

* 3 - Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh announces Budget 2011-2012

* 15 - Total lunar eclipse witnessed in Pakistan

August

* 1 - Ramadan

* 15 - Pakistan breaks world record of national anthem sung by most people.

* 14 - 2nd "Quality Standard Award" 2011 Distribution ceremony on occassion of World Standards Day-2011

This "Quality Standards Award" has been established by The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) with the Collaboration of Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Ministry of Science and Technology Government Of Pakistan and with the support of Partner NGO's, Sindh Journalists Networ(SJN) and Standards Gazette International. The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) will arrange event and organige to distribute "Quality Standard Award" to those manufacturers and service Organizations who has to appreciate goods/Services that are most popular among the Consumers in Pakistan and meet all of their needs and preferences. Quality Standard Award is intended to generate interest and involvement of local industry in Quality programmes, drive pakistan's products and services to higher levels of quality and equip our Industry to meet the challenges of domestic and International markets so that Pakistan could move into 21st Century with pride, with a view to encourage Pakistani manufacturers and service organizations to strive for excellence and giving special recognition to those who are considered to be the leaders of quality movement in Pakistan. The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) is a registered NGO for the protection of rights of Consumers in Pakistan. The Consumer Eye Pakistan (TCEP) is the independent and authoritative voice since year 2005 for consumers in Pakistan, building a powerful movement to help protect and empower consumers everywhere and to create consumer awareness against counterfeit, substandard and adulterated products. TCEP has been working with ISO member, Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Ministry of Science and Technology Government Of Pakistan and actively involved in improving quality and standards of the citizens by advocating accountability and code of conduct in government and society to promote quality and standards. TCEP also organizes meetings, brainstorming sessions, workshops, seminars and press conferences relating to Consumer rights and Quality Standards. The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) also monitors the trends in and operations of the media and undertakes different programmes to make the media more effective in carrying out its responsibility on Quality control activities in the country. TCEP undertakes programmes of information, education, motivation on communication aspects of different issues of importance such as Quality Standards, health and population, industry and development, politics and democracy, welfare and skill development of consumers and plan and carry out such programmes for other agencies. It provides consultancy services to government and non-governmental organizations in policy and programmes formulation relating to Standards and quality issues, media, Environment, communication, journalism and public relations, also assists in the production of manuals, reports, leaflets, brochures And booklets.. The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) also organizes workshops, seminars and colloquiums throughout the Pakistan, bringing together people from different sections of the society, including politicians, economists, journalists and experts from related fields, to create awareness and build opinion on nationally important issues. Carrying out studies and researches on various issues is another important activity of Quality Standards, Also has a large list of its members; most of them are based on working journalism. The outcomes of these studies shall publish and disseminated immediately through organizing seminars, press conferences and other means. The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) believes that better work with honesty can improve people's lives.

* 22 - Husain Haqqani resigned as Pakistan Ambassador to the United States following claims of his alleged affiliation with the "memogate" controversy.

* 26 - A NATO attack on two Pakistani border checkposts in Salala in the Baizai subdivision of Mohmand Agency in FATA kill 24 soldiers of the Pakistan Army.

* 23 - Pakistan rejects US air strike deaths report that killed 24 pakistani soldiers killled

* 27 - Pakistan closes down Nato supply line to Afghanistan in retaliation to attack which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers at Salala chekpost.

* 10 - Lunar eclipse witnessed in Pakistan
