At least 18 militants and eight soldiers were killed Friday after dozens of suspected Taliban raided a border post in north-western tribal region along the Afghan border, officials said. The incident occurred when rebels attacked Shaidano post in Kurrum, one of seven tribal districts where militants linked with the al Qaeda terrorist network are active.

The Muslim Students Organisation (MSO) activists held a rally on Friday in connection with Kashmir Solidarity day in Peshawar. The rally led by district president MSO, Mohammad Sher and Vice president Faizan Haider, the student activists were holding placards and banners inscribed slogans in favour of independence of Kashmir. The MSO leaders said that the need for solution of core issue of Kashmir in accordance to UN resolutions.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence directed all intelligence agencies to appear before it on February 29 to share their information on targeted killings in Sindh and Balochistan. Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho chaired the meeting held here on Friday and directed the Ministry of Defence to make arrangements for a comprehensive representation of ISI, MI, BI and Special Branch Sindh on internal security of Sindh and Balochistan.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced public holiday on Saturday (today), 11th Rabi-ul-Awal, on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, a private TV channel reported. It may be mentioned here that the provincial governments had already announced public holiday in their respective provinces.
The President on Friday confirmed three additional judges including Justice Muhammad Tasnim, Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar as judges of the High Court of Sindh. Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the President also confirmed Justice Nisar Muhammad Sheikh for extension for another one year as Additional Judge of the SHC.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) never compromised on principles and faced every trial bravely. Addressing the stone-laying ceremony of Kalla Shah Kaku Toll Plaza at Shahdara, he said, "dictators come and go but the vision and philosophy of Zulifqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto is alive."
The government would table 'The Constitution (Twentieth Amendment) Bill, 2012 in the National Assembly on Monday, February 6, to give constitutional cover to the by-elections held under incomplete Election Commission after 18 amendment, which is likely to be passed unanimously.
