imageISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday assured National Assembly that cases of missing persons and extra- judicial killings would not be acceptable and inquiry would be held for any violation of law by security forces.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice of MQM MNAs on increasing incidents of extra-judicial killings and missing persons in Karachi, he said he realizes pain of members of MQM over the situation in Karachi and inquiries will be held for any violation of human rights.

Responding to Leader of the Opposition, Syed Khurshid Shah who sought clarification of Interior Minister on a statement attributed to him in a section of media, the Minister said that during a recent press conference he did not talk about one month ultimatum or timeline to Sindh government for improvement in law and order situation.

Ch. Nisar said he is not ignorant of law and constitution and according to constitution, maintenance of law and order is the responsibility of provincial government.

Further, replying to questions raised by MQM members Shaikh Salahuddin, Sufyan Yousaf, Kishwer Zehra, Syed Waseem Hussain and Sardar Nabil Gabol, he said role of the federal government is to provide intelligence to the provincial governments and send federal security forces on request of provincial governments.

The government can appoint Rangers and other federal forces to the provinces and review its decision after every three months in consultation with provinces, he told.

He said according to the figures given to him, in the last three years there were only three cases of extra- judicial killings .

He said the government declared 261 persons missing, out of which 156 persons were traced, six dead bodies were found and 99 are still untraced.

"I am not satisfied with both figures and I will probe the issue further, every person will be held accountable ",he added.

When MQM was in coalition government in the last five years, no efforts was made to hold a single inquiry over incidents in Karachi, the Minister said.

He assured that he will look into the case of Ajmal Baig and urged MQM members to seek explanation from Sindh government over law & order situation in Karachi.

The Minister said he would ask Joint Investigation Team (JIT) inquiring into recent terror incidents in Balochistan to submit report within seven days.

He said he will visit Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and meet with governors and Chief Ministers and discuss them to improve law & order situation.

The federal government is acting within the constitution and parliament and Sindh government can give it an extended role in matters of law & order, if they want to, the Minister added.

The Minister stressed that he would continue to raise voice in the House even if a drop of blood spills in Karachi and called upon parliamentarians from all sides to support the government. Ch. Nisar informed that a number of groups are involved in criminal activity in Karachi and across the board action should be taken against all groups.

He said they have to clear mess created because of policies of General Pervez Musharraf in ten years.

He said there is commitment on all sides that armed forces would follow policies made by the political government according to constitution and law.
