Police sources said they found statements of the victims contradictory following explosion caused by a "gas leak" at a basement studio apartment at the Park Towers in Islamabad's Sector F-10 on Saturday evening. They said that the apartment belonged to a friend of the commissioner. Sources said the initial statement by Commissioner Peshawar to police was that he incidentally entered the apartment to save his life after he felt that some people were chasing his car and declined any connection with the wounded lady. But as per statement recorded by the lady she visited the apartment for the purpose of attestation of some documents from Commissioner Peshawar.
An official of Islamabad police rejected the impression that the commissioner might have been at the centre of an assassination attempt made to look like an accident. The police also denied having found any trace of explosives in the apartment, as according to them the Bomb Disposal Squad has also indicated in its report that the explosion was caused due to gas leakage.
Upon the contradiction in the statements, the sources said that the investigators were now probing the case to ascertain relationship between Sahibzada Anis and Asghar-un-Nisa also taking into account other aspects. They said that as per information gathered by the investigators, Asghar-un-Nisa belongs to Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency, where Sahibzada Anis remained as Political Agent prior to his promotion as Commissioner Kohat and then Commissioner Peshawar.
Asghar-un-Nisa is working as project co-ordinator of an NGO, namely Comprehensive Health and Education Forum [CHEF] International at its Islamabad office. It was further revealed that an elder sister of Asghar-un-Nisa, namely Akbar-un-Nisa, who is currently principal of Parachinar Public School, being run under Political Agent Kurram, has recently been given an undue favour on Anis's request by promoting her to 18-Grade without appearing in any competitive exam.
On Saturday evening, the commissioner and the woman were brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in critical condition. According to a spokesperson of the PIMS, Wasim Khawaja, the commissioner was brought to the hospital with 90 to 95 percent burn injuries on his body while the lady's body received 45 to 50 percent burn injuries. On Sunday afternoon, the commissioner's family moved him from PIMS to a private hospital near Golra Mor in Rawalpindi where doctors said that he is being treated in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, but they are unable to give a decisive statement on his current medical condition.
