ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter said on Monday that Pakistan and the United States share identical goal and that is to have joint cooperation in combating terrorism.
"My country is determined and committed to uprooting terrorism and Pakistan is our ally in this strong resolve. It is now for Pakistan to decide that whether the two countries should stand partner of each other to fight war on terrorism or otherwise," he said this while talking in a private news channel programme.
Answering a question, Ambassador Munter said the US resolve was strong to eradicate the menace of terrorism, saying that he did not agree that the ties between the US and Pakistan were at the lowest ebb. "I think there is a convergence between the people in Pakistan and the United States as the people in both the countries want answers of their questions about Osama Bin Laden," he said.
He said that the ISI and the CIA had a long and rich history of working together. "We have a long history of cooperation in military, civilian areas and economy and this yielded very fruitful results.
"We need to focus on the fact that we worked together which led to the triumph of killing Osama Bin Laden. This was a great day for Pakistan and US, he said and added US President Barak Obama had talked about this in his speech that "we did a lot together and we should continue."
Replying to another question about repeated requests from Pakistan that the drone attacks should be stopped, he said dialogue can be conducted at the highest level in this regard.
"We listen to people of Pakistan. Let us have dialogue at the highest level," he added.
Answering a question about levelling some serious allegations against Pakistan by CIA Chief Leon Panetta, Ambassador Munter said Abbottabad operation was an "operation of security" which means very few people can know because the success of operation was victory of Pakistan and at the same time for the US.
About the Raymond Davis case, he said it was highly regrettable and added there is a need for finding ways and means so such incidents did not happen again.
He said criminal investigation is going on against Raymond Davis in US as promised by Senator John Kerry and added Pakistan has good friends in US as Senator Kerry, Senator Lugar and Hilary Clinton who are committed to Pakistan's success.
