BRUSSELS: The head of the Eurogroup, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, denied Friday that crisis eurozone talks were being staged that could see Greece exit the euro, his spokesman told AFP.
"This information is totally false," Guy Schueller said after a reports sparked by German news magazine Der Spiegel that eurozone chiefs were discussing scenarios on Friday that could see Athens give up the shared currency.
"There is no Eurogroup meeting taking place or planned this weekend," he underlined.
Greece "categorically denied" any plan to ditch the euro after the report said Athens was thinking of pulling out of the single currency zone, a source in the prime minister's office told AFP.
France too poured cold water on the suggestion, which comes 10 days before the next scheduled talks among eurozone finance ministers in Brussels, at which Greece could seek a second easing of terms on last year's international bailout.
