PTA rejects increase in gas tariff

Leather industry and tanners have rejected the massive increase in gas tariff, terming it another blow to the export-oriented industry and the economy of the country.

In a statement, Chairman Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) SZ, Amanullah Aftab while condemning the frequent increases in utility charges particularly gas tariff by the present regime said that the present government is ruthlessly hitting the industry by frequently increasing the tariffs of utilities and other inputs while in the same time energy crisis and law and order situation has resulted in totally wiping out of the profit margin of the exporters and they are forced to run their units in losses. Regarding the decision taken by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to increase gas prices by 6.1 percent per mmbtu for all consumer categories he said that the move was detrimental to the local and export-oriented industry.-PR
