PPP clinches PK 90 Chitral seat

All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) of former president General Pervez Musharraf (retd) on Sunday lost its lone seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from the remote district of Chitral, as its candidate Ghulam Muhammad was defeated by Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians' (PPPP) Sardar Hussain in re-election on seven polling stations, a private TV channel reported.

According to unofficial results of PK-90 upper Chitral, PPP's Sardar Hussain won the seat with a margin of 98 votes. It may be recalled that in May 11, 2013 general elections, Sardar Hussain had lost to Ghulam Muhammad by only seven votes. The PPP candidate challenged the victory of Ghulam Muhammad in election tribunal, alleging large-scale irregularities in the recounting. Later, a tribunal ordered recounting of the rejected and postal ballots in the seven polling stations, which gave only one vote lead to Sardar Hussain. As a result, the tribunal ordered re-polling in the seven polling stations.
