balochistan-mapQUETTA: Balochistan government was fully conscious of the agriculture sector's significance to attain self-reliance for food and ensure maximum employment opportunities to people of the province.

Provincial Agriculture department sources told APP here Thursday that the government was determined for exploiting maximum potential of the agriculture sector by introducing latest techniques about traditional and cash crops to the farmers of the province.

Under the same initiative, Balochistan Horticulture Cooperative Society is implementing Model Floriculture Farms project in the province in collaboration with Balochistan Floriculture Association.

The foremost objective of the project being implemented with a matching grant support of Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF), is to introduce floriculture business as a potential source of earnings for the farmers of the province.

"The project also aims to bring investment towards floriculture industry through the provision of information, advice, education and training to the farmers", they said.

Besides, efforts are also being made to make the project successful through introduction of necessary support systems such as auction markets, cold storage, and Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure.

The project is being implemented into two phases. In the first phase, eight model floriculture farms have been established in parts of the province while in the second, the Flower Market at Quetta would be established besides developing information technology infrastructure to provide online information to the growers regarding trading and the market rates of their commodity.
