The Finnish smartphone maker Nokia is back, and is all set to regain its lost glory in the global smartphone and tablet market with the release of its Android based smartphone and tablets.
Under a licensing agreement between Nokia and Finland based HMD global, the agreement allows HMD to produce and sell Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets for the next decade, and in exchange HMD would give royalty payments covering both brand and intellectual property rights to Nokia, reported the International Business Times.
"Instead of Nokia returning to manufacturing mobile phones itself, HMD plans to produce mobile phones and tablets that can leverage and grow the value of the Nokia brand in global markets,” stated Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies in a statement.
Other than the Adnroid platform Nokia has released no information yet on the release date of the new Nokia-branded gadgets. The Andorid mobile operating system developed by Google is already used by leading smartphone manufacturers i.e. Samsung, HTC, LG etc.
Nokia was once the undisputed leader of the mobile phone, however, the device manufacturing company was soon overshadowed by competitors since it could not keep up with the dynamic smartphone market. The situation worsened to the point that in 2014 Nokia’s cell phone manufacturing department was sold to Microsoft.
