imageAndroid is known for giving funky names to its latest releases, they can be silly or cute but it’s always sweet. Google has finally revealed the official name for its latest Android N operating system through Twitter.

Welcome the Android Nougat, the latest Android 7.0 operating system, unfortunately it’s not Nutella, which could have been better but the current name seems alright as well. The announcement came through a short video post, where the company suggested the operating system could be called 'Nutmeg', 'Nectarine', 'Nachos' or 'Noodles'.

However, keeping the tradition alive, Google thought of keeping it with previous dessert-themed names such as Ice Cream Sandwich and KitKat, and therefore settling on Nougat.

Now coming to the features, the Android Nougat would bring much awaited improvements. As Express reported, among which are better battery life and power performance, all thanks to the new Doze feature that is puts your device into a low-power mode when it detects the phone isn't moving.

Your Android phones will now support split-screen apps, which will allow two apps to run side by side or one above the others, similar to Apple's existing iOS feature.

In addition, it also features better support for virtual reality games and apps, linking in to Google's new Daydream VR headset, also a new Night Mode that cut down light consumption when using device through late night browsing.

Wired reported that one of the major updates is enabling the ability to quickly double-tap the 'Recent' button to go straight back to the last app one was using. The Google latest will also bring new accessibility features too, i.e. DPI scaling, which enable to make all the elements of the interface larger.
