imageThe quest for the world’s cheapest smartphone is all but over. Namotel another unknown Indian company has announced a new contender titled ‘Acche Din at an incredibly low price of Indian Rupees 99.

According to Indian Express, the latest announcement comes after Freedom 251 and Docoss X1, both tagged the ‘world’s cheapest smartphone’. However, Namotel beats both former claimants to the title by a huge margin, in price of course. But! is it a scam?

Coming to the specs, which all sound hard to believe with the given price, as the smartphone features a 4-inch display, running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage. In addition, one also has 3G connectivity and dual SIM card slots.

As far as cameras are concerned, the Namotel Acche Din comes with a 2MP rear, and a VGA front camera with 1,325mAh battery.

According to International Business Times, the product listing for the smartphone carries a price tag of Rs. 2,999, which is believable. However, the company is offering the device for Rs. 99. The move does not make sense, literally, as with this price tag the company won’t be able to cover manufacturing cost.

The product would be available to Indian citizens only, through registration that are said to be open on the company’s website and will stay on till May 27.
