Google announced its own version of messaging app at the I/O conference, all welcome ‘Allo’ the chat app with an ‘incognito feature,’ meaning complete end-to-end encryption.
According to Google blog post, “Allo is a smart messaging app that makes your conversations easier and more expressive,” said Amit Fulay, Group Product Manager.
Google’s latest messaging app comes packed with machine learning and Google’s new Google Assistant service, allowing users not just to chat to each other with animated graphics and enlarging/shrinking text, but also to call in Google for sharing media, plan events etc, as per Tech Crunch.
“It’s based on your phone number, so you can get in touch with anyone in your phonebook. And with deeply integrated machine learning, Allo has smart features to keep your conversations flowing and help you get things done”, says Google in the post.
The app is featuring the end-to-end encryption, which puts Google at odds with the law enforcement agencies. As per The Guardian, the incognito technology makes it difficult for agencies to recover messages during investigations even if they have a warrant.
Google on the other hands believe it is important to protect user privacy saying, “Privacy and security are important in messaging, so following in the footsteps of Chrome, we created Incognito mode in Allo. Chats in Incognito mode will have end-to-end encryption and discreet notifications, and we’ll continue to add new features to this mode,” in the blog post.
The app is being unveiled today, but it will only be live this summer, Google says.
