The world’s biggest video-sharing website, Youtube has recently had major facelift for its mobile users.
As per a blog posted by Youtube, users will now see a redesigned homepage, which is termed much simpler than its predecessor. “Starting today, when you open the YouTube app on your iPhone or Android phone, you’ll experience a redesigned Home, with a clean and simple format that invites you to discover and enjoy,” Youtube said in the post.
As per engadget, the move came as Youtube wants to display more videos the users like. With these latest additions, the high resolution images run nearly as wide as the phone’s display, as compared to the previous small thumbnail previews, whereas, their videos start playing automatically with a tap.
Youtube has improved its recommendation engine, coming up with ‘deep neural network’ technology. “The new recommendation system is based on deep neural network technology, which means it can find patterns automatically and keep learning and improving as it goes,” Brian Marquardt, Product Manager, YouTube Main App said in the blog.
“People who have tried the new system have spent more time watching fresh videos and content from their subscriptions,” YouTube’s blog post added.
Some of the features now deleted include, the groups of recommended videos that appeared previously are no more. Instead the suggested clips appear in a single ranked list. "Instead of recommending groups of videos to you, we're going to take the best video from the groups and put them in the right order for you," said Johanna Wright, YouTube's VP of Product Management.
