Metro Bus Project: chief minister orders completion of construction work within stipulated time

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed that the construction work of Metro Bus Project should be completed within the stipulated period as no compromise will be made on the timeline given to the contractors. He also said metro buses will reach Pakistan by the end of the current month; he wants to give the gift of metro bus service to the people as soon as possible.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the pace of construction work on Metro Bus Project here on Monday. Lahore Transport Company Chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hasan, Members Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Dr Saeed Elahi, Hafiz Muhammad Nauman, Chairman Planning and Development, Project Director BRT, Secretary Information, Commissioner Lahore Division, District Co-ordination Officer Lahore, Director General LDA and concerned officials were present.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said metro bus is a unique project of public welfare, which has taken the form of a mission. He said work on the project should be accelerated with a missionary spirit. He disclosed that 11 parks and ride stations will be set up on the route of metro bus service.

Issuing instructions to provide complete security at parks and ride stations, he said every moment is precious and all out resources should be utilized for the early completion of the project. No delay will be tolerated in the completion of the project. There is also a need to expedite work on the construction of special depot for metro buses. Metro bus is a splendid project and a milestone in the transport history. The Punjab government is fully aware of the problems being faced by the citizens due to the construction work; however, I am grateful to them for their cooperation," he added. He directed the traffic police authorities to evolve better planning for maintaining the flow of traffic on BRT route.

The Chief Minister directed the P&D Chairman that case study of the project should be conducted and a comprehensive report be prepared from the launching of the project till its completion after reviewing all affairs. He also issued instructions for clearing the route and installation of lights on the occasion of Youm-e-Aashoor and the Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajveri and said that the route should be clear for devotees.

Later, he met the contractors working on various sections of Metro Bus Project and issued instructions to them to further accelerate the pace of work as the timeline will not be extended. He appreciated the work of the contractor working on the rotary of MAO College.

The PHA DG gave a briefing to the Chief Minister on horticulture on the route of the project. He said beautiful horticulture and landscaping be made on the route. He further stated that stations should be beautified and a detailed briefing should be given to him after completing the project within seven days. He directed PHA DG to consider outsourcing the sites of horticulture and landscaping..
