The prices of essential kitchen items, fuel, cooked items, LPG, gas, firewood along with bakery and confectionery registered a substantial increase in December, as compared to November, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) on Friday notified ''Trade Policy 2011-12'', according to which ''positive list'' of importable items from India has been expanded further by 18 additional items. The government has also allowed export of liquor to non-Muslim countries.
Khurram Sayeed, Executive Committee Member India-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Chief Executive Planet Petrochemical, hailed the inclusion of Polymers in the road list of items importable from India. He said that polymers of PP and PE are used in the manufacturing of bags for fertiliser, sugar and cement and this measure will give some relief to the consumers as they can now be easily imported from India at competitive prices.
Business community in Sialkot was formulating a strategy for initiating electricity generation project to get rid of load shedding on permanent basis and ensure the production wheel spun in full motion. The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) had already constituted a committee headed by Babar Iqbal on energy for giving final shape to the proposed project, it was revealed in a news conference on Friday.
The government must not make any agreement with India at the cost of industry which is currently making all-out efforts to survive in the presence of acute energy crisis, rising inflation and widespread corruption. The Karachi Port handled 82,349 tonnes of cargo comprising 43,599 tonnes of import cargo and 38,750 tonnes of export cargo including 4,649 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 43,599 tonnes comprised of 23,354 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,640 tonne of general cargo; 15,205 tonnes of bulk cargo: 13,961 tonnes of coal; 982 tonnes of wheat; 262 tonnes of cows and 1,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
