ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Acting Ambassador to Libya Ali Javed said on Wednesday that all the Pakistanis living in Libya were safe and the embassy was in contact with them.
"We have not received any report regarding untoward incidents against Pakistanis. We have no consulate or a commercial section in Benghazi but we are in contact with Pakistani people living there and according to them they are safe," he told BBC.
The Ambassador said there were five officers and around 30 staff members in the Pakistan embassy in Tripoli, who with the grace of Allah Almighty were safe.
"So far we have not received any reports about injury or death of any Pakistani. The city of Benghazi is situated at 1100 kilometers away from Tripoli," he added.
Replying to a question, Ali Javed said, "We are diplomats and our first and foremost priority is the welfare of Pakistani nationals in Libya. We are in contact with the government and are getting advice from it."
He said some Pakistanis, working for a Turkish construction company, have contacted the embassy and requested that they are jobless and want to return to Pakistan.
"We have contacted the government in Pakistan and informed about the desire of some people living in Libya," he said and added that almost 18,000 Pakistanis were residing in Libya.
