PMKM demands transparent policy for next wheat procurement
LAHORE: Pakistan Muthida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) Chief Ayub Khan Mayo has demanded Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to announce a transparent policy for the procurement of wheat during next harvest.
Talking to the media here on Sunday, he said that production of 300 million ton wheat was expected in the province during next harvesting season but the government has not so far unveiled any policy to purchase wheat from the farmers.
"The government should come ahead and redress apprehensions of the farmers about purchasing their produce and start taking practical steps to ensure that the farmers would not face any difficulty in getting due return of their produce", he said.
He said that the problems in getting finance from banks for next crop have added to the miseries of the farmers.
He also urged the government to discharge its financial liabilities regarding previous wheat season by exporting the stored wheat on urgent basis.
The farmers were expecting support from the government for their rehabilitation after flood destructions he said and urged the CM to ensure transparency in purchasing wheat from the farmers for enabling them to get their due return.
