ISLAMABAD: The price of metals used in the artificial jewellery has registered gradual hike due to increase in its demand in view of the ongoing wedding season.

Price of gold, which is traditionally used in jewellery, has gone beyond the purchasing power of both middle and upper middle classes that forced the womenfolk to opt for artificial jewellery which is equally durable, cost effective and readily available in diversified range of designs throughout the country.

Even manufacturers change the colours of ornaments to match the dresses with additional charge.

During last couple of years artificial jewelry has become centre of attraction. Artificial jewelry manufacturers today offer a lot more creative, unique pieces to cater to fulfit the demand of customers. Classic new look derived from different materials like wood, shellac, bone, metal, electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), terracotta, resin, plastic, beads and stones have not only succeeded to form a good market by attracting the attention of people but also increased the demand of such metals.

Talking to APP, an artificial jewellery dealer said "Artificial jewellery is made of metals other than gold. Such metals are steel, brass and copper. These artificial ornaments have gradually become substitute of gold ornaments which raised the demand and price of such metals".

Most of the women buying artificial jewellery were of the view that artificial jewellery looked as beautiful as the original at the same time they were affordable.

"Reasonable price range makes it convenient for every woman to buy artificial jewellery which results in the rise in demand of these artificial ornaments," a shopkeeper at Super Market Islamabad told APP.

The jewelers demanded that the metal providers should cooperate with them in providing quality metals.

They also demanded government to pay attention to the industry of artificial jewellery and to provide a wider platform to the designers of artificial jewellery to exhibit their works locally and internationally.
