PESHAWAR: At least 10 persons including a child were killed and 29 sustained injuries in a bomb blast in the premises of Akhun Punjo Babas shrine at Akbarpura area in Nowshera district on Friday, police and Edhi sources said.
District police said lungar (food) were distributed among people inside a mosque located in the premises of shrine after Juma prayer when a huge explosion occurred.
About 200 people were gathered for lungar when a planted bomb exploded. The conditions of several victims are stated to be critical. The identity of victims could not be immediately ascertained.
Four bodies were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital while body of a child was brought to Pabbi hospital for treatment. Emergency has been enforced in Lady Reading Hospital.
The casualty figure may increase further as conditions of several victims are stated to be critical. The structure of building was razed to ground.
Police and Rescue-1122 rushed to the spot and started relief operations. The bang of explosion was heard in long distance.
