Jobs no more - think different

Published October 7, 2011 Updated October 7, 2011 12:00am

untitledAnticipating the demands of consumers, even before the latter became aware of them is considered the main ingredient of Steve Jobs success. His business model which focused on innovation regardless of price was deemed ridiculous by many tech giants. But silencing critics, this model has enabled Apple, Inc to make huge profits while others in the industry are working hard to just breakeven. Jobs has turned tables for Apple; he took a company heading towards disaster and transformed it into one of the worlds most successful firms in record time. Inarguably Apples products reinvent markets, rather than capturing the existing ones. Apple has changed the dynamics of the tech industry .The whole idea behind Apple is to think different. Apple created needs that were never felt before. At times when tech giants were busy making dull desktop boxes and giving customer better prices, Steve Jobs realised that hardware and software were not the only value generators and more could be done in the tech world to create value. He brought in the idea of selling an experience by designing cool products that gave users the sense of standing out of the crowd. Since Steve Jobs took control of Apple there was no looking back. Apple has produced successive hits like I-pod, I-phone, I-phone 3g, I-phone 3gs, I-phone 4, I-pad, I-pad 2. Apples I-pod was not the first handheld music player. Multi-billion dollar firms like Sony were already making handheld music players like Walkman, but Apple recreated the market of handheld players by giving its users an attractive design, and I-tunes to purchase and download music, videos, games and other applications from the I-tunes store. When mobile phone giants like Nokia were offering days of battery life and high-tech cameras, Apples I-phone (the first phone which Apple launched) offered a mediocre camera, relatively low battery life and lacked compatibility with the commonly used operating systems. Surprisingly Apples sleek design, stylish and user-friendly interface made it a huge success, despite the dearth of features compared to competitors products; that too at a higher price. There is no doubt that Steve Jobs has changed the way businesses work. How styling can add value to a gadget is unbelievable. His departure has left Apples fate in jeopardy as the first product after his retirement from the company; I-Phone 4s, has failed to meet customers expectations. Jobs, undoubtedly, was the Iron Man of Apple.
