The ‘Fast and the Furious’ is coming back to theaters. While production continues on the eighth film in the automotive action saga, Universal will celebrate the film that started it all with a 15th anniversary theatrical rerelease.
The movie will hit 1,500 theaters to celebrate the 15th anniversary on Wednesday, June 22. That’s the date when the Rob Cohen-directed movie opened in 2001.
Remembering the first film, the franchise’s longtime star-producer Vin Diesel released an exclusive statement to Entertainment Weekly. “Fifteen years ago my life changed forever. Dom was born… Little did I know back then what that really meant,” he said. “The brotherhood formed with Brian, the love personified in Letty and the sense of family initiated by Mia… It is surreal that this film has held up all the years and led to so much more. Proud of our Fast saga family. From studio to crew, thank you all.”

Vin Diesel also took to Instagram to remember Paul Walker ahead of ‘Fast 8’ shoot. He posted, “Many of the crew members who have worked on several of the past Fast films are here again to help us make something special. One of them at the end of the week came up to me and said wow what we are capturing on film is excellent... And then looked at me and said Paul would be proud”.
Tyrese Gibson (best known for playing Roman Pearce) also took to Facebook to remember Paul Walker in an emotional post.
