Arab Members of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) Taleb Abu Arar and Ahmad Tibi raised the Azan Muslims call for prayer to protest against the recently passed bill by Israel that requires mosques to ban the use of loudspeakers during the Azan.
Tibi also read a verse from the Holy Qur'an as well as a phrase from the Gospel of Luke, reported Gulf News, enraging some Jewish members of the parliament in process.
Ahmad Tibi said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is leading an Islamophobic campaign, adding that the Azan is an essential part of the scenery of the country.
The controversial bill of banning the use of loudspeakers in mosques was passed on Sunday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that Israel is "committed to defending those who suffer from the loudness of the excessive noise of the announcements."
The proposed bill has drawn criticism from various circles, with many Palestinians calling it a violation of their freedom to worship.
Muslims were not impressed by Israel PMs action with a report on Ummid cited Tibi as saying: "We also suffer from the noise of trumpets blowing on Fridays and Saturdays, and suffer from the travel ban in your holidays especially during the Day of Atonement, but we do not object nor touch your religious rites."
