The world largest video sharing platform Youtube, is looking to turn itself more into a social media player in the likes of Facebook and Twitter. The Google owned video platform has announced the release of a new tab called YouTube Community.
The social feature currently available as a beta version is a new tab to users’ YouTube channels, giving video creators a new way to engage with their viewers.
As per The Verge, the new Community tab works as a News Feed for that particular video creator, allowing them to post text updates, live videos, images, GIFs etc to their subscribers. The posts will show up in fans’ Subscription feeds, they can also get a notification when there’s a new post, as well.
“Community is a special release for us because it represents the deepest product collaboration we’ve ever done with creators like you. We started by inviting creators in early to develop, in partnership with us, the tools they wanted to better engage with their fans,” wrote Kiley McEvoy, senior product manager, YouTube in a blog post.
At present the Vlogbrothers channel is being used as a testing ground for the new “Community” tab. However, as per adweek YouTube plans to add additional creators to the feature in the future.
