imageThe micro-blogging social platform Twitter, has just made it easier to get the blue check mark, the site symbol of authentication.

As per TechCrunch, the miro blogger has announced that they are opening applications to apply for verification on the platform. An account may be verified if it is determined to be of public interest, “let people know that an account of public interest is authentic,” the company said.

Typically, this comprise of accounts maintained by celebrities, journalists, athletes, politicians and other high-profile figures that are likely to be impersonated on Twitter.

"We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification," said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter's vice president of User Services. "We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience," added Tina.

Being verified provides a number of special features i.e. a verified-only notification feed without changing much in the Twitter experience.

Now how to get verified, as per Indian Express, users will have to make sure their account has a verified phone number and email address, bio, profile picture, birthday and website. The company also said they will ask you to tell them why you should be verified, and potentially ask for a government-issued ID to confirm your identity.

“We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience,” said Tina.

The company further informed that it was the first platform to introduce account verification, in 2009 and at current has up to 187,000 verified accounts from its 310 million monthly users.
