Children today are more stressed and have worsening emotional and mental health than children in previous generations, a new survey shows.
According to US News, a study conducted by the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health, which involved nearly early 2,700 respondents also believe that today youngsters have higher stress levels, less quality family time, and poorer coping skills and personal friendships.
The survey also found that 42 percent of the adults believed that children today have worse physical health than, previous generations.
"We have seen major advances in medicine and public health over the last century that have greatly reduced children's illness and death. On the other hand, conditions like childhood obesity, asthma and behavior problems have become more common," poll director Dr. Matthew Davis said in a university news release.
“We wanted to know how the public perceives these trends, so we conducted this latest national poll to gain insights into adults' perceptions of children's health today," Davis said. "We found that adults in the US broadly agree: children's health today seems worse than for children over the past several decades," he said.
According to Times of India, surprisingly, Pre-baby boomers i.e people aged 70 and older were most likely to perceive that children's physical health today is better than when they were growing up. Whereas, Baby boomers i.e. aged 51-69, persons falling in generation X i.e. aged 35-50 and millennials i.e. aged 18-34 were less likely to perceive that children's physical health is better now.
