Netflix, the American multinational which recently went global, has pledge that it will not allow public from using virtual private networks (VPN’S), proxies and unblocker technologies to watch videos that is unavailable in their territory.
According to a blog at Netflix website, the company would clamp down the practice of using proxies or unblockers, in coming weeks. It said, “Some members use proxies or ‘unblockers’ to access titles available outside their territory. To address this, we employ …measures other firms do. “
The subscribers have been able to dodge the barriers by using technologies such as that provide foreign IP addresses to access content not available in their home territory, to watch popular shows like ‘Orange Is The New Black’ and ‘Daredevil’ on Netflix.
The website added, “If all of our content were globally available, there wouldn’t be a reason for members to use proxies or ‘unblockers’ to fool our systems.”
According to CNBC, “The strategy is simple, they have a responsibility to content owners to only show that content in the geographies for which they have a license. Enforcing those restrictions is a Netflix responsibility”.
Last week Netflix went global, as it launched itself in 130 countries, including Pakistan, Nigeria, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
