imageThe Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday banned Kabir Khan’s ‘Phantom’ based on 2008 Mumbai attacks in response to a petition filed by Hafiz Saeed.

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, has been named as an International terrorist by United Nations. He had recently filed a petition in Lahore high court to ban the Kabir Khan-directed feature film 'Phantom' on the basis that it maligns Pakistan and his organization.

However, the court has accepted his plea and banned an upcoming Bollywood movie in Pakistan.

“It is absurd to say that (Saeed) is linked to the attacks in Mumbai,” lawyer A.K. Dogar told The Associated Press. “We hope the government of Pakistan will take steps to implement the court order.” According to a court document, the government said it had received no request from the producer of ‘Phantom’ to show the movie in Pakistan.

“There is a direct threat to the life of the petitioner (Saeed) and his associates emanating from the content of the trailer of the film. It is obvious that dialogues coming out of the lips of the different Indian actors and actresses will poison the minds of Pakistani public and will portray Hafiz Saeed as terrorist even though JuD has not been declared as a proscribed organisation,” Dogar added.

The film is based on crime author Hussain Zaidi’s novel ‘Mumbai Avengers’ and is set to release on August 28 in India. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
