imageThe Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor has made a hattrick of producing flops with films like ‘Besharam’, ‘Roy’ and his recent release ‘Bombay Velvet’. Ranbir Kapoor's much-hyped movie ‘Bombay Velvet’ has ended up as one of the biggest disasters of his career.

‘Bombay Velvet’ was meant to be writer-director Anurag Kashyap's big entry into the world of mainstream cinema. Pre-release, the trade had estimated the film would do minimum business of around Rs.35-40 crore in its opening weekend. The film could collect a meager Rs.16.1 crore in its opening weekend. This is actually lower than the Rs.21-crore first-day haul of ‘Besharam’, his last starring role that flopped at the box office after a great start, Indian media reported.

According to India Today, The film, however, is not a blockbuster. The actor's other 2015 release ‘Baby’ is at number two with Rs.35.9 crore weekend collections. ‘Roy’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in an extended cameo, is at the third spot with Rs.28 crore. ‘Piku’ (Rs.25.22 crore), ‘Badlapur’ (Rs.24 crore) and ‘Tevar’ (Rs.22.05) are other films this year so far that have better first-weekend collections than ‘Bombay Velvet’.

Ranbir Kapoor teaming up with his parents onscreen for the first time in ‘Besharam’ but the trio failed to save the film's fate at the box-office. Compared to ‘Besharam’, ‘Bombay Velvet’ could not even manage one-third of its collections on day one. `Roy’, which was supposed to be Ranbir's comeback after the disastrous 'Besharam' in 2013.

Ranbir Kapoor will be seen along with Deepika Padukone in ‘Tamasha’, and with Katrina Kaif in ‘Jagga Jasoos’.
